- Microservices in 2016 — A Slideless Keynote (Adam Bien)
Microservices are the natural architecture for Java EE apps. This statement is impossible to explain with slides but easy to testify with working code. In this keynote, I will code a couple of microservices with Java EE and orchestrate (=invoke :-)) them. - 12:00
- Lunch
- 13:00 - 15:00
- Workshop Round 1:
- "Design Patterns of the NetBeans Platform" (Geertjan Wielenga)
In this workshop, you will be introduced by Geertjan Wielenga to the key mechanisms used by NetBeans RCP developers around the world, using NetBeans APIs such as Lookup and Node to create complex and dynamic communication mechanisms. At the heart of the NetBeans Platform lies its communication mechanism, used by NATO, NASA, ESA, and many organizations all over the world. This workshop, for beginners as well as advanced NetBeans Platform developers, will expose you to the central concerns of the NetBeans Platform and help you make use of it effectively. - "Java Everywhere with DukeScript" (Anton Epple)
DukeScript enables you to easily use Java to create cross-platform applications that run on iOS, Android, desktops, embedded devices, and even the browser. Most people use it to create business applications, but in this workshop, you’ll learn from Toni Epple how to create a fun little game with it. After a short introduction, the workshop is all "hands on" work and contains a lot of live coding to demonstrate how to deal with different screen sizes, separate design and logic, and unit-test highly visual DukeScript apps. In the end, you’ll find out what you need to do to get your app into the iOS and Android app stores.

- 15:00
- Coffee
- 15:30 - 17:30
- Workshop Round 2:
- "Learn to Fly a Drone with Your Own Code" (Timon en Eva Veenstra)
Have you ever flown a drone, with your own Java code? In this workshop, you will be shown a real drone, which Timon and Eva Veenstra will make fly and demonstrate how it works. You will then learn how you yourself can program the drone. The workshop will consist of setting up code on your laptop for managing and controlling the drone. You will gain practical experience, which you will be able to use for your own drones, or similar drones, from starting the drone to flying it around the room. - "Enterprise JavaScript with Oracle JET" (Geertjan Wielenga)
Have you ever tried to create a large application in JavaScript? That's not much fun and not very easy. Oracle JavaScript Extension Toolkit (JET) is a new solution that empowers developers by providing a modular toolkit based on modern JavaScript, CSS3 and HTML5 design and development principles. In this workshop, you will get hands on experience with the various parts of JET, such as Knockout and Require, and you will create your first JET application. By the end, you will have a solid understanding of JET and be able to create modular enterprise applications yourself, in JavaScript.
